The JC Clark Adaly Trust invests its capital in the applicable classes and/or series of limited partnership units of the JC Clark Adaly Fund. The latter, an Ontario limited partnership, is focused on opportunistic investing with the objective of generating absolute returns in most market environments. Various approaches are employed by the Manager to achieve this objective, which include identifying special situations and investment themes, establishing market-neutral positions, and hedging or making short sales. As such, the Fund is classified as a multi-strategy hedge fund. Capital preservation is of paramount importance, as is suppression of volatility. Ideally, the Manager aims for positive monthly returns, despite recognizing that rapid shifts in market psychology and investor sentiment make this a difficult goal. Frequently the Fund's portfolio may have a build-up of cash while the Manager seeks suitable investment opportunities. In these instances, and in order to enhance the Fund's return, the Manager may invest such cash in a diversified portfolio of higher yielding securities, such as corporate bonds and debentures, preferred shares, or other quasi-debt instruments. Overall, the investment objective is to first protect, and then grow, the Fund's capital by building a diversified portfolio of well-conceived and well-timed investment ideas.
